GHANA DOESN'T LEGALLY EXIST– FORMER MP FOR HOHOE SOUTH

In the wake of some group of people in the Volta Region demanding independence for a Western Togoland state, Kosi Kedem, a former Member of Parliament for Hohoe South has argued that Ghana does not legally exist.

“There’s no union document on the so-called union between Ghana (Gold Coast) and Togoland. De facto, they are one [unit], but legally, Ghana does not exist,” Kosi Kedem said on Joy News’ PM Express on Tuesday.

He explained that Ghana as a country is made up of the Gold Coast and the UN Trust Territory of British Togoland, adding that, for a union to be constitutionally legal, a union document needs to be legalized.

Kedem said, “Resolution 1044 which recognizes the recommended union, the same UN Resolution 1044 invited the British Government which was the administering authority to take such steps as necessary to bring about the union.”

He continued: “So, if a Trust Territory, being ruled by the UN and a colony being ruled by Britain are to come into union, what do you do? You have to sit the two of them down for them to determine what type of government they want to have, what will be their responsibilities, obligations and benefits. No such thing was done.”

Kosi Kedem further stated that the main cause of the fight for independence by the secessionist groups is that there is the absence of the union document that details the factors of the union.

He indicated that the plebiscite that resulted in the independence of the Gold Coast was facilitated by the United Nations mission visiting French Togoland and British Togoland.

He explained further that the plebiscite was to determine the political fate of both colonies which also gave two options, that is, a union with the Gold Coast or an integration of both colonies.

Kosi Kedem revealed: “The problem is that there was a plebiscite as a result of the UN Visiting Mission which came to the two Togos; French Togo and British Togo in 1955, and they recommended that there should be a plebiscite in British Togoland to determine their political fate. Majority of Togoland said that they wanted a union with an independent Gold Coast...the UN General Assembly rejected the offer of the union and forcibly integrated Togoland with Gold Coast.”

He said a union would have maintained the sovereignty of Togoland which would have given them the sovereign equality with independent Gold Coast under the same government but under the integration, Togoland lost its identity which was completely consumed by the Gold Coast. The union was thus forced on Togoland.

Kedem stated that no meeting was held to determine the kind of government to be instituted, its responsibility, obligations as well as the benefits to be derived from the union.
“Instead, on the eve of independence, around 4th March, the British Government with the help of the CPP government just sent troops to Togoland and occupied the place on the pretence that they were quelling a rebellion,” he noted.

Kosi Kedem stated that the British government refused to implement the terms and conditions highlighted in Resolution 1044, which was to ratify the union.
He consequently called for a dialogue between the government and the secessionist group and further called for the “rectification of the constitutional blunder” which can end the debate of secession and unite the country.

“Violence, confrontation, repression are very powerful, but dialogue negotiation and engagement are far more powerful than violence because violence does not solve any problem, dialogue does. It gives you a long-lasting solution to the problem," the former MP added

ROBERTO LANDI CALLS FOR FOCUS AFTER PREMIER PRACTISE

Ashantigold's Italian manager, Roberto Landi has expressed delight with the crop of players he met on his return to Ghana. The 1997 CAF Champions League finalists, have made significant changes in their playing body ahead of the new season.

The Italian who managed the Liberian national team from 2011 to 2012 arrived in Ghana in February this year to take charge of the Obuasi based club. He however left the Ghanaian shore with his return delayed owing to the global hiatus.

Arriving in Ghana several days ago, the manager held his first training session at Ofori Stadium on 23rd September, 2020. Speaking after the session to TIME FM, he hinted at building a competitive side irrespective of the players who have left.

"I left from the time of the coronavirus. I arrived and there are new players. They are very good players and I think we can build a very competitive team and play football on my philosophy."

The 64 year old has previously managed Scottish premier league side Livingston FC as well as Belgian Proximus League side, Royal Union Saint Gilloise.

Tasked with leading the Miners into the new season which is barely a month away, the Italian called for a general focus in the team stressing that time would not be a hindrance to his intended work.

"We have time because I think the news is that the league will start around 30th October and the Africa campaign is around the 27th November. We need to focus on the start of the league and the African campaign."

The Italian gaffer would be in hunt for the club's maiden continental triumph and 5th Ghanaian league success.

I'M NOT HERE TO JOKE- DACOSTA CRIES OUT

Newly acquired Ashgold utility defender, Empem Dacosta has echoed his willingness to give out his best for the 'Yellow and Black'. Dacosta, primarily a central defender, joined the Obuasi based club from regional rivals Asante Kotoko.

Dacosta who joined Asante Kotoko from Karela United in July, 2019 on a 3 year deal mutually terminated his deal after nearly a year in Kumasi. Lack of playing opportunities after the exit of gaffer Kjetil Zacchariasen forced his premature exit from the club.

In a interview with TIME FM on his first day at training with Ashantigold, the hard tackling defender expressed that he is in Obuasi to work whilst showing respect to his new colleagues.

"It's a great opportunity to join the club. I came to work. I'm not here to joke. Nothing new. I have a relationship with some of them already. I pray things work out well. I'll respect my teammates regardless of where I'm coming from."

He is expected to help the Miners in the 2020/21 CAF Confederations Cup.

ASHANTIGOLD CAPTURES BURKINABE GOALKEEPER

Pertinent to Ashgold's success in the next African campaign is a good team. As such, the Obuasi based side have been on the market in a bid to find quality players to beef up their team.

The arrival of Italian gaffer, Roberto Lande, and the imminent capture of former Asante Kotoko center back, Empem Dacosta attests to the above.

The Miners are also close to securing the services of Burkinabe goal tender, Abubakar Sawadogo. It's worthy to note that the club has lost 11 players recently. Willingly, the club parted ways with 5 players as 6 others refused to renew their contract upon expiration.

The club mutually ended the stay of Emmanuel Osei Baffoe, Stephen Owusu Banahene, Musa Mohammed, Akwasi Nti and Benedict Wogbenu.

Prized assets,Latif  Anabila, James Akaminko, Shafiu Mumuni, Frank Boateng, Eric Donkor and Yussif Mubarik have also left the club having refused to extend their stay in Obuasi.

There lies the need to recruit new personnel and the club have done so by bringing in 9 players recently bar Dacosta's move.

The departure of Frank Boateng who was the club's number one goalkeeper has necessitated a move for Sawadogo who made his international debut for Burkina Faso in 2017.

In 2018, he joined Saudi based Al Najoom on a year deal from local club, RC Kadiogo.

Sawadogo, 31, joins Ashgold having last played for AS Douanes in the Burkinabe top flight. He has twice guided the Stallions B to eliminate the Black Stars B from the African Nations Championship (CHAN). He did so in 2017 and 2019.

He was also in post when the Stallions 'B' played at the WAFU Cup of Nations 2019 only for the Black Stars 'B' to eliminate them at the quarter finals stage.

He will compete for places in the goal post with the Miners' long serving goalkeeper, Robert Dabuo. Dabuo was part of Ghana's 2009 world youth winning squad led by Andre Ayew.

He has been called up for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations against Uganda & South on 13 and 17 November 2019.

Mr. Richmond Grant (right)
StarLife also announced the Phobia Assure package, a comprehensive life insurance policy designed and created in conjunction with Hearts fans for Phobia fans and beyond.

As part of increasing the partnership's comprehension to the media and the general public at large, StarLife has embarked on an engagement with media houses.
Head of Group Business, Richmond Grant engaged the media houses in Obuasi on 10th September as part of the education tour.

In his presentation, Mr. Grant explained that identified challenges such as financial instability in local clubs lead to the invention of this novel partnership. He added that this was a partnership and not a sponsorship thus the need for all Phobian fans to patronize the Phobia Assure packages.

Speaking exclusively to our outfit prior to the conference held at the Starlife Assurance Office in Obuasi, Mr. Grant advised all football well wishers to patronize the product. He also spoke about the duration of the deal.

"I urge all supporters of Hearts of Oak and every football fan who wants to see the growth of football in this country to patronize the product."

"Well it's an initial 5 year deal which is renewable and looking at the products being sold, the minimum maturity is four years. The products are all long-term products so we believe that once we all work well it can go beyond the initial agreed years."

He added that Hearts of Oak will gain a part of the premium on every purchase of a product. He also made it known that the players of the club can buy the products individually whilst discussions are on-going with the club for a group package.

"The club will also earn money from every single insurance package. So as long as you maintain to pay your premium, the club benefits financially because a percentage of the premium goes to Hearts to aid the mobilization of funds for their success."

"These are individual products. The players themselves, we are encouraging them because they are aware of bad precedents. Stories of most our players who are retired should be the drive. We will encourage them to also get their families on board. The products are extended to other players not only those who play for Hearts of Oak."

KEITA AND ARTHUR HEADS KOTOKO'S MASSIVE CLEAR OUT

Asante Kotoko will look to cut down the size of their squad with some clearances ahead of the 2020/21 CAF Champions League campaign. Accordingly, nine players have been penciled down by the technical ahead of the clear out.

The exit of Matthew Anim-Cudjoe and Justice Blay who left the club after the expiration of their loan deals, leaves the club with 36 players. With the club looking to beef up their squad, there's a need to reduce the numbers in the playing department.

The blemish remains that the club has bought 63 players from 2017 with 37 leaving the club. The club is linked with deals for Medeama's duo of Samuel Appiah and Richard Boadu. Another name on the books is Karela's Emmanuel Keyekeh.

Below are the players who are nearing an immediate exit from the Kumasi based club;

1. Samuel Frimpong (Loan)
2. Empem Da Costa (Mutual termination)
3. Richard Senanu ( Loan)
4. Godfred Asiamah
5. Evans Owusu
6. Augustine Sefa
7. Patrick Yeboah (Transfer)
8. Richard Arthur
9. Naby Laye Keita

This leaves the club with 25 players as they pursue new personnel.

UAE BASED AL-AIN GRABS LIBERTY'S TOP FORWARD

UAE Pro-League side, Al Ain have reached an agreement with Liberty Professionals to sign Elvis Kyei Baffour ahead of the 2020/21 season.

Elvis had a year more to serve the Dansoman based side after joining them in 2018 but the Pro-League side came calling. Al-Ain have bagged the pro-league on 13 occasions with 1 Asian ChaMpions League trophy.

Elvis, 21, was on the radar of Ashantigold SC ahead of their consecutive CAF Inter-club venture. The 'miners' however have lost out on his services.

The young and enterprising attacker recorded 62% of his league goals for 'Scientific Soccer Lads' in the recent past season. He ended up as the club's highest potent attacker.

The forward managed 8 goals in 15 games. In all, he found the back of the net 13 times in 34 league appearances during his stay.

Ghana's all time top-scorer, Asamoah Gyan is second on the UAE based side's top scorers list with 128 goals, 52 less than Ahmed Abdulla, the top scorer.

Gyan also featured for Liberty Professionals and his legacy should be enough motivation for Elvis.  Elvis will be jetting off to UAE this weekend.

Representative of Hearts's central defender, Nuru Sule, has 'rubbished' talks of his client leaving the club to a any foreign. The towering defender was purported to be on the verge of cancelling his contract with a move to an unnamed Swedish club in the offing.

With the rumour spurring on, Nana Kwarteng who ensured the player's return to Hearts of Oak, disclosed in a private chat that, the news had no iota of truth.

"It is never true. Disregard such information. How can we cancel a player's contract because of an impending deal?"

Roiled, the player's representative pinpointed how an awestruck, Nuru Sule quickly sent him a message on the said scenario.

The former Alanyaspor and Al-Mina defender had these words for his manager, " It's not easy Nana, yesterday a lot of phone calls came in the evening. Right after I was done with my personal training, I saw them. Even this morning, I have decided not to even answer them."

Nuru, 27, also excels at left-back. He played for  the Phobians from 2011 to 2014 having joined from Tudu Mighty Jets.

He rejoined the Accra based club on a two-year deal in April this year.

RICHARD LARTEY VOWS TO KNOCKOUT NATHAN GORMAN

Richard Lartey has vowed to win the highly anticipated comeback bout with Nathan Gorman in “devastating fashion” according to his interview with Ghana’s most authoritative platform BoxinGhana.com.
“I have a long reach than him. He was scared of[ Daniel] Dubois but I was not. I have an advantage over him…..My height, my aggressiveness, and my reach.” Lartey said when quizzed by Boxing Ghana’s Samuel Ofosuhene.

The former WBO Africa champion was in his bullishly best as he dismissed the idea of a pre-fight prediction but assured all and sundry of a convincing victory.
“I know I will stop him but I can’t predict now because I’m respecting him as a opponent” Lartey expressed.
The verbal sparring between Nathan (16-1,11 KOs) Gorman and Richard Lartey has now begun and is set to escalate ahead of fight week next week.
The ten rounds heavyweight redemption fight is set to go down on Saturday, 12, September 2020 at BT Sport Studio, Stratford, London, United Kingdom.
Many connoisseurs of the game are predicting a very close encounter with Lartey ahead. For many, Lartey is the forgotten obstacle that can still stake a claim in the heavyweight division with the right trainer and management.
For many, Lartey (14-2, 11 KOs) must use this fight as proof that he is still a force to be reckoned with in the heavyweight world.
